Administration building and engine room of the municipal gas plant

Historical Monuments

Administration building and engine room of the municipal gas plant

Description

The administration building is a two-story, brick building with a gable roof. From the street side it is decorated with a corner avant-corps with a stepped gable. The facade is horizontally oriented with turrets at the corners; due to the central avant-corps and double-leaf wooden doors with glazing, the entrance area resembles a portal.

The engine room is a brick, partially plastered, one-story building with a gable roof, decorated with a large clock on the gable side and segmented arched windows.

Historical background

The gas plant was built in 1857. In the years 1903, 1909-1910 and 1913 the capacity of the gasworks was reduced. Both gas tanks were removed in 1977 and 1996.

The administration building was probably built in 1897.
