Historical background
The recreational swimming pool at Kaltenborner Str. was built in the 1960s with the financial support of the inhabitants of the then Wilhelm-Pieck-Stadt (formerly and nowadays the city of Guben). During the construction of the new building of the 9th Secondary School, an indoor swimming pool for students was additionally built. It was also open to public use. The opening of the pool, dated November 1970, was celebrated with a show program presented by swimmers from "Dresdner Goldfische". The ceremony was attended by the then mayor of the city and the 1st district secretary of the SED.
